IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Delays/ cancellation
Flights from Kathmandu to Lukla are notorious for being delayed due to bad weather. In this case, we wait until the next available flight. Our ground Nepali crew will be working hard to get us on the next available flight.
Trekkers wishing to upgrade to a helicopter flight on the way back, can be arranged for $2,500 / helicopter, which can take up to 5 people + luggage, from Lukla - Kathmandu. It is not an environmentally friendly way, but an incredible experience flying amongst the beautiful mountains!
Insurance
Your Travel Insurance should cover trip cancellation and rescue in case you need emergency evacuation. Please look for an insurance that covers trekking up to 6,000m. It's also recommended to take out an additional Health Insurance if your travel insurance doesn't cover it.
You need to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. For any other vaccinations, consult with your doctor and check out the Foreign Travel Advice.
Visa, Park Permit
You can get the visa on arrival at the International Airport. USD 50 for 30days. More info here.
Park and trekking is permit included in the cost. Please bring a copy of passport and passport photos.
Phone calls, Wifi, Sim Card
You can grab a sim card or an e-sim in Thamel, Kathmandu and top it up for the duration of the trek. Ncell is a popular mobil data supplier in Nepal. Please note, tea houses charge for wifi during the trek.
My motto: There is no wifi in the mountains, but I promise you will find a better connection.
Remember why you are coming on this trip. To re-charge, immerse yourself, learn, challenge yourself, to have amazing experiences. Phones are great for photos and videos, why not put it on airplane mode so the battery lasts longer 😉
Fitness & daily hiking times
Be prepared to hike 4 - 8 hours per day. Best way to train for this trek at home is to hike with a large, heavy backpack for many hours. Walk up and down stairs and use the gym treadmill at an incline. Do both aerobic (running, cycling) and strength training (weights).
If you have any specific questions about training, get in touch with Alex on WhatsApp +41 79 480 8605 or email alex7summits@gmail.com.
There's no preparation for the altitude, unless you live at high elevation at home. You can also rent a pre-acclimatization device or go to an altitude gym if there's one nearby.
Luggage
When packing at home, good idea to put your trekking boots in your carry-on luggage. It's possible to replace many items in Kathmandu, however worn-in and tested boots are a MUST!
We will have porter support during the entire trek from arriving to returning to Lukla. The duffel bag you give to the porter is max 15kg.
By the time we get to the tea houses, our big luggage will be there. Please bring a padlock. 1 porter will carry the luggage of 2 trekkers.
Kathmandu - Lukla flight: 15kg / person checked in luggage, 5kg/ person hand luggage. Extra $2 / kg, you need to cover any extra cost.
Luxury
After leaving Namche Bazaar 3,430m, taking a hot shower will turn into bucket washing! Bring wet wipes. A good battery pack will save you some bucks charging the iphone everyday, but please count with having to charge the battery pack. Don't rely on a solar charger, due to the weather.
Snacks, tea, coffee
While a Snickers bar is about USD 1 in Lukla, it can cost 3-4 times more the higher and further we go, for example near Everest Base Camp.
If you have your favourite tea bags of coffee, bring it and you can mix it with hot water for the trek / tea house stays.
